Capcom Says They’re Considering A Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Remake

Though it's only just released, it's safe to say that Capcom's remake of Resident Evil 2 has been a huge success. The game's sitting at 90% on Metacritic and has had fans delighting in its remake of the 1998 PS One original, using everything that modern technology has to offer. Its apocalyptic vision of Raccoon City is so great, in fact, that some folks are now demanding that Capcom work a similar magic on Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Its apocalyptic vision of Raccoon City is so great, in fact, that some folks are now demanding that Capcom work a similar magic on Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. And in a promising twist, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi recently stated in an interview with Japanese website GameWatch that if they think fan demand’s there, they’ll put it into production.

Released just one year on from Resident Evil 2Resident Evil 3 takes place in the same location and at around the same time as the second game. It stars Jill Valentine, one of the original Resident Evil characters and famously features the iconic Nemesis. This hulking creature comes equipped with a rocket launcher and is almost unkillable, stalking the player across the map and requiring them to either expend a lot of ammo to temporarily bring him down or just run in terror (I always ran in terror).

The recent remake took a few cues from the Nemesis in the way it treated Mr. X, but I’d love to see the AI stalker idea be more fleshed out, especially if they could take some cues from the criminally under-rated Alien: Isolation. Similarly, Resident Evil 3 is a little more action orientated than its predecessors, so it’d be really cool to see how they could make the combat a little more complex and explosive.

If this were to happen, it’d be the last mainline Resident Evil game to get a HD version, with everything from 4 onwards available on modern consoles. That said, it could be interesting to see what they’d do with CODE: Veronica, which has always been a bit of a favorite of mine.
