Gamescom, the biggest annual gaming show in all of Europe, is set to start on August 17th and will reveal new footage of some of the most anticipated titles that have yet to be released as well as show off projects that are currently unannounced. One of the companies confirmed to have a presence at this year’s show is Capcom, and they seem to have something planned that involves Resident Evil.
Last week, Biohaze revealed that the studio’s Resident Evil Ambassador program in Japan had sent out emails to all of its members to find testers for a game that’s currently in development. The tests will take place on September 7th and 8th in Shinjuku, with rumors suggesting that the title in question could see a release as soon as January 2020
While the leak didn’t say explicitly that the game would be another entry in the Resident Evil franchise, it’s unlikely that Capcom would send members of the program information about a project not related to the horror series. As such, many fans have been speculating that the whole thing could be pointing towards a reveal of a remake of Resident Evil 3 at Gamescom.
After all, it would be a smart move for Capcom to capitalize on reimagining that particular installment in the franchise, as the recent remake of Resident Evil 2 was released to critical and commercial success. Fans have been clamoring for a revamp of the threequel since it was first announced that Resident Evil 2 would be receiving a revamp for modern consoles and now seems like the perfect time to give them what they want.
However, other reports suggest that the next game could actually be Resident Evil 8, which is rumored for release in 2021 and will be built for next-gen consoles. Whatever the case may be, we’ll just have to wait patiently to find out what Capcom has up their sleeves for Resident Evil fans.
