It’s been a big day for Nintendo fans, as not only did the company reveal when the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. will release, but they have also announced when Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will hit shelves. North American gamers can look forward to stepping into the shoes of the titular Captain on December 5, while European fans will have to wait until January 2015.
A spin-off of Super Mario 3D World, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker follows Toad as he navigates treacherous levels in search of gold stars. The title will make full use of the Nintendo Wii U’s GamePad, and will also support select Amiibo figurines. Although it wasn’t the biggest title present at Nintendo’s E3 showing, it received heavy praise coming out of the event.
While I won’t be able to speak about the quality of Captain Toad, as I don’t own a Wii U, I’m interested in seeing how it sells. Super Mario 3D World was a smash and I imagine most people played some of the minigames this spin-off is based around. But it’s also releasing in the shadow of Super Smash Bros., as well as several big third party titles. Hopefully it sells well enough the The Big N’s sake though.
We will continue to have coverage of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker in the lead-up to its December release date.
