7) Life Is Strange
I’ve been wanting to play DONTNOD Entertainment’s Remember Me for a while now but haven’t found the time to do so just yet.
I’m glad that I didn’t wait on their follow-up, though, because Life is Strange is an episodic treat. Not only does it present an interesting and thought-provoking storyline — albeit one with a slightly disappointing ending — but it introduces unique mechanics that put a twist on the familiar episodic adventure gameplay that Telltale has become famous for. After all, it’s no secret that Life is Strange took inspiration from its competitor, but its developers paid homage using it, instead of releasing a copycat affair.
From the day it was announced, DONTNOD’s latest had me intrigued, and I played each episode as soon as it was released. Every twist and turn was exciting and compelling, and the world of Arcadia Bay beckoned me over and over again.
Please don’t let this gem be forgotten; it deserves a wide audience and is easily one of the best games of the year.
