Resident Evil 7 isn’t due to claw its way onto PC and home consoles until January, but Capcom’s back-to-basics sequel has been making waves thanks to the launch of its Kitchen VR demo to coincide with the arrival of PlayStation VR. This follows in the footsteps of the Beginning Hour vertical slice that made its bow towards the end of the summer, and together those sneak peeks have been fanning the flames of excitement ahead of RE7‘s release next year.
Adding fuel to the fire today are two chilling new teasers. The first of which features a foreboding message that appears to feature the voice of Sheva Alomar from Resident Evil 5, while the second is more of a warning than anything else, telling budding players to reserve their ammo for the nasties that lie in wait.
Could RE7 feature some form of cameo from Alomar? Capcom is remaining tight-lipped about the cast of characters included in the horror title, revealing only that players will assume the role of Ethan, a man searching for his wayward spouse. Each snippet is in and around 30 seconds in length, so it’s impossible to wean much story information at this stage. There are many, many secrets residing in this decrepit mansion, that’s for sure.
January 2017 marks a defining month for the Resident Evil franchise in that it will not only herald the conclusion of Screen Gems’ live-action film franchise with The Final Chapter, but a new beginning thanks to Resident Evil 7. It’s set for release across PC, Xbox One and PS4 on January 24, at which point the entire experience will be playable from back to front via PlayStation VR.
