Last month, we found out that Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII would be joining the Super Smash Bros. roster sometime in the future. Well, the future is now, apparently, as Nintendo announced at today’s Nintendo Direct event that the JRPG legend will launch today on both the Wii U and 3DS.
Wielding his iconic buster sword, Cloud plays a little bit differently than the other members of the Super Smash Bros. roster. As is the case in Final Fantasy VII, Cloud will have access to Limit Break attacks. As you dish out and receive punishment, a special limit gauge will build up. Once the gauge is maxed out, Cloud will boast slightly stronger stats, as well as the ability to power-up a single special attack for one time only.
Besides coming packed with his classic costume, the DLC set will also include two costumes based around his appearance in Advent Children. The two look pretty much the same, except one has an extra sleeve, while the other doesn’t. The DLC will also come with the exclusive Midgar stage.
Carrying a cost of $6 for either Wii U or 3DS, or $7 for both, Cloud should be available for use in Super Smash Bros. sometime later today.
