With the collapse of THQ and a disappointing reception to Darksiders II, many weren’t expecting the series to survive, even when the rights for it were acquired by Nordic Games GmbH. However, according to series artist Joe Madureira, Darksiders isn’t quite six feet under yet.

In a post on his Facebook page, the artist explained what was going on with the series quite directly:

Darksiders, DS is not dead!!! The new owner Nordic seems very committed to continuing the series. As far as my involvement, I can’t say at this point. Hopefully we will all have exciting news about the franchise soon!!!!!”

There’s not much else to take away from this post, other than the fact that Madureira is very enthusiastic about the series and that Nordic Games GmbH didn’t acquire the rights for nothing.

While there is nothing concrete to go on yet, I, for one, would be very interested in seeing Darksiders return. Despite being a mishmash of several different games, the series featured a unique world and art style that made it one of the stand-out franchises of the past console generation. The shuttering of former developer Vigil Games is unfortunate, but I’m sure other developers would be more than willing to take their own stab at the franchise.
