Hideo Kojima may have missed out on his moment last year due to contractual obligations with Konami, but thanks to The Game Awards 2016, the famed game developer was in attendance to collect the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award. While on stage, an emotional Kojima capped off his speech by unveiling a brand new trailer for Death Stranding, the upcoming PS4 exclusive in the works at Kojima Productions.
Just like the E3 2016 reveal, it’s a trippy, mind-bending snippet, but it does shed some light on the game’s story and, perhaps most exciting of all, its two new stars: Guillermo del Toro and Mads Mikkelsen, star of Hannibal and soon Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
[zergpaid]Rooted in a dark and dystopian world, Death Stranding appears to involve a story in which natural birth has become something of a commodity, as we see del Toro’s character clutching onto a futuristic pod containing an unborn baby. Peer close enough and you’ll also see that he’s tethered to a pair of alien handcuffs, similar to those worn by Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) in the E3 reveal trailer. He’s nowhere to be seen here, but this is a very, very exciting teaser nonetheless.
Death Stranding is in development as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. No word yet on the game’s release window, and we don’t expect that to change anytime soon. That being said, Hideo Kojima will be part of a DS panel at this weekend’s PlayStation Experience, where the esteemed developer is expected to offer up a closer look at tonight’s new trailer.
