Waiting for a new Destiny Raid to go liveĀ is like trying to get to sleep on Christmas Eve as a kid. It’s an exciting time, one that, whenever it arrives, is punctuated with absurdly high levels of anticipation and expectation, and for good reason. These are, after all, the premier end game experiences meant to keep Guardians returning, week after week, to have another go at scoring lucrative loot rewards that can’t be found anywhere else.

But besides that, every past example, From the Vault of Glass all the way up to Wrath of the Machine, represents, better than anything else in Destiny‘s ambitious world, how talented the folks at Bungie really are. That it managed to successfully transplant a feature that, up until VoG’s launch, had only ever been associated with third-person MMOs is an achievement in itself, but it’s the melting pot of gameplay mechanics – showpiece boss fights, puzzles, platforming segments, etc. – that seamlessly flow into each other that make them just as enjoyable to experience on the fiftieth attempt as they were on the first.

Given Destiny 2‘s longer than expected gestation period, there’s a great deal of pressure on Bungie’s to ensure that the sequel’s opening Raid gets all the attention it deserves, especially if we’re to wait several months or more for a second to arrive, but it hasn’t failed to deliver on that front yet. Even Crota’s End, often considered to be the ‘worst’ of the Raids, was an enjoyable romp through the Hive’s stronghold, but Bungie’s learned a lot since then.

Raid 5, or Leviathan, as it’s officially known, will open its doors to the bravest of Guardians on Wednesday, September 13. If you’re shooting to be one of the first to unearth its secrets but yet to hit the level cap, we’ve formulated a handy list of tips to help get you prepped and ready for the World Eater’s arrival.
