Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Gets September Release Date, New Figures, Pre-Order Bonuses

Disney Interactive has proudly announced that Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes -- its anticipated 2.0 release -- will hit North American stores on September 23. This means that the game will launch almost one year and one month after its predecessor debuted back in August of 2013, and proves that the company has high hopes for its comic book-inspired follow-up. Fall is a busy season, after all, and it's easy to get buried. That likely won't be an issue here, though, given how popular Disney Infinity has become.

Disney Interactive has proudly announced that Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes — its anticipated 2.0 release — will hit North American stores on September 23. This means that the game will launch almost one year and one month after its predecessor debuted back in August of 2013, and proves that the company has high hopes for its comic book-inspired follow-up. Fall is a busy season, after all, and it’s easy to get buried. That likely won’t be an issue here, though, given how popular Disney Infinity has become.

Those who pre-order the game will receive a pretty cool bonus, that being a select Disney Infinity 2.0 figure. A list of retailers offering this perk has yet to be revealed, but a press release states that it will be available through “top retailers nationwide.” I assume this means places like EB Games/GameStop, Best Buy and Future Shop.

In other Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes news, the game’s newly-revealed, PlayStation exclusive Collector’s Edition will offer The Incredible Hulk figure 30 days before he’ll become available in-stores. That premium set, which will retail for a whopping $179.99, will also include all six Avengers play sets, in addition to a light-up Frost Beast diorama. It looks nice, but will certainly be something that only the die-hards and uber collectors amongst us will rush out to buy.

Those without a PlayStation 3 will be able to purchase a system bundle, that will pair Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes‘ Starter Set (containing Thor, Black Widow and Iron Man figures), with a console, for $249.99. The system itself will come with a 12 gigabyte harddrive, which won’t do for most gamers but may work out for children interested in this toy-based experience.

Continuing on, Drax, Gamora, Groot, Star-lord and Rocket Raccoon — the heroes behind Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie — will also find their way into this Disney Infinity follow-up. Their inclusion will come via a a special, tie-in play set, which will feature all five playable characters, as well as crossovers like Iron Man and Nova. It’ll become available sometime this fall, perhaps after the full game releases.

Here’s a quick description of the play set’s storyline, which comes to us from Disney Interactive itself.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Play Set follows Star-Lord and his fellow Guardians as they arrive at Knowhere, having just stolen a powerful cosmic object from the villainous Ronan the Accuser. Players will guide the team as they race to protect Knowhere from Ronan and his attacking Sakaaran fleet while keeping their newly liberated item safe from the villain’s evil grasp.

The Guardians of the Galaxy will be playable in Toybox 2.0 mode, as well, and will also have their own power discs. For more information on those, check out the following list:

Space Armor – Unlock Gamora’s out of this world Space Armor costume for added protection against enemies. Who says fashion can’t be functional too?
