Today is a big day for Disney Infinity 3.0 fans, as the House that Mickey Mouse Built took to YouTube to divulge details as to what’s next for the popular toys-to-life game. You may have seen said stream, but if not, here’s a recap of what was said and what to expect within the next calendar year. The stream, itself, is also embedded above in case you’d like to watch it for yourself.
Things began with a celebratory announcement regarding the great year that Disney Infinity had in 2015, thanks to its inclusion of Star Wars and everything that comes with it. The team is proud of its results, as can be imagined, and took some time to talk about how their game was number one in its category, prior to getting into the details pertaining to what they’ll be adding next. This includes big plans for continued support in 2016, which follows the decision to forego releasing a brand new entry this year.
The biggest news is that four new play sets are planned for 2016, with those coming from the four core brands at Walt Disney. As such, you can expect new playable story content from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and Disney itself.
Only two of these play sets ended up being detailed today, with those being based on Zootopia and Jon Favreau’s remake of The Jungle Book.
Zootopia
These additions begin today as we welcome Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from the world of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia. These new characters from the upcoming movie, plus four new Power Discs, are now available in stores worldwide. We spoke with the directors of the movie to share their vision behind bringing Judy and Nick as playable characters in Disney Infinity, which you can catch inside the clip.
Two new character figures are also hitting stores this week, in celebration of Zootopia’s theatrical debut this weekend.
Welcome Baloo!
Not long after Zootopia comes to theaters on March 4, Jon Favreau’s live-action remake of the classic Disney animated film, The Jungle Book will open. To mark the occasion, we wanted to go back into the Disney vaults and celebrate the animated classics that started it all by bringing Baloo, one of our favourite characters, into the game.
Baloo represents another instance where your feedback makes a difference. We’ve heard fans have been asking for more classic Disney animated characters, and it’s always on our minds as we move forward with Disney Infinity. The upcoming film was the perfect occasion to follow through on those requests and bring a beloved Disney character in Disney Infinity 3.0.
Of course, there was also a look at Marvel Battlegrounds, the four-player co-op arcade brawler that is expected to release on March 15th. New characters and returning favourites were also announced, including The First Avenger, Hulkbuster, Ultron, Black Panther, Ant-Man and Vision. This new roster will also feature costumes inspired by May’s Captain America: Civil War.
On top of this, fans will be happy to hear that Black Suit Spider-Man — who was once an exclusive for the PS Vita version of Disney Infinity 2.0 — will be available separately in the near future. He will be just one of the characters who will be available for use in Marvel Battlegrounds, which also promises support for all of Disney Infinity‘s other Marvel characters.
Needless to say, there’s a lot on the horizon and 2016 is shaping up to be a busy year for Disney Infinity 3.0. Keep watch for new details as they become available.
