Following on from its tease yesterday of a large announcement for The Elder Scrolls Online, Bethesda has delivered on its promise by announcing a brand new expansion for the MMO. Due to release on June 6 for
Due to release on June 6 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind will allow players to visit the island of Vvardenfell, home to the imposing Red Mountain, for the first time since 2002’s The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. However, fans of the original game shouldn’t expect the nation to be exactly the same as when they last visited – the events of ESO take place before all the other games in the series, so think of this as your chance to experience Vvardenfell in all its glory. With that said, according to the reveal livestream (via VentureBeat), Bethesda says long-time fans will find various nods to the original during their travels, as well as a majority of the country’s major landmarks.
Excitingly, the upcoming expansion will also mark the first time a new class has been added to the game since launch. The so-called Warden role will utilize earth-based magic as its main method of attack, as well as have the ability to call on a bear companion to aid them in battle. What’s more, support for The Elder Scrolls Online‘s popular PvP mode – which pits three factions against each other in competition for the throne of Cyrodiil – will be bolstered, with a new mode, among other things, planned for more competitive-minded players.
Considering the scope and ambition of Morrowind, you should expect to pay more for the expansion than previous add-ons The Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild. Brand new players will be able to pick up the base game as well as the new content for $60 on June 6, while those that already own a copy of Tamriel Unlimited can grab it for $40. A $100 physical collector’s edition will also be available.
Expect more new features to be revealed by Bethesda over the coming months, but in the meantime, feel free to dissect the official trailer above. Enjoy!
