The latest horror opus from influential developer Shinji Mikami, The Evil Within, will officially be launching in North America on August 26 and Europe on August 29. The third-person survival horror title will be coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
Coming to us courtesy of the team at Tango Gameworks, The Evil Within centers around Sebastian Castellanos, a detective who is sent along with his partners to investigate a grizzly mass murder. Upon reaching the scene though, the group is attacked and most of his team his slaughtered while Sebastian is knocked out and kidnapped. Upon waking up, Sebastian comes face to face with a series of terrifying creatures and unimaginable sights. He must fight to survive this Hellish place and figure out who is behind all of it.
With Shinji Mikami’s former creation, Resident Evil shying away from its survival horror roots in favor of a more action based approach in recent years, it appears that there is potential for The Evil Within to burst onto the scene and become the new premiere horror franchise on the block. Sure, there are the likes of Amnesia and Outlast available, but those titles are going for a different type of not only horror, but also gameplay than this title is.
We will continue to have coverage of The Evil Within in the lead-up to its August 26 release date. Are you excited to end the Summer with what looks to be a horrifying conclusion? Let us know in the comments section below.
