In the wake of its barnstorming debut on iOS – which propelled the free-to-play app to the summit of the App Store charts – Bethesda has announced an August release window for the Android version of Fallout Shelter.

Responding to a fan via Twitter, the studio’s Marketing Executive, Pete Hines confirmed that development on the port has been “coming along nicely,” and it shouldn’t be much longer before Android owners can appoint themselves as Vault Overseer in their own post-apocalyptic bomb shelter.

Announced during Bethesda’s E3 press conference last month, Fallout Shelter is a freemium experience that bears semblance to other genre titles such as FTL: Faster Than Light among others. Despite pulling in record numbers and even knocking Candy Crush Saga from its perch on Apple’s digital storefront, the studio has reaffirmed that the app’s raison d’etre is more concerned with raising brand awareness, as opposed to making a quick buck.

As for the Android release, if Hines proves to be correct in slating Fallout Shelter for an August launch date, it’ll arrive much sooner than expected. After all, it was only a fortnight ago that Bethesda’s Twitter account claimed that the port was still “a few months” out, so news of it launching in August – even if it isn’t quite set in stone – is good news indeed.
