It looks all but certain that FIFA 15 will hold on to the number one spot in the UK charts over the Christmas period after EA Sport’s footie simulator once again held off Activision’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in this week’s standings.
The feat was achieved in spite of a 22 per cent decline in sales for the studio’s latest entry in the sports franchise, while the top five places in the charts were unchanged from last week.
Here’s how the software ranked for the week ending December 13, as provided by UKie.
1) FIFA 15
2) Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
3) Grand Theft Auto 5
4) Far Cry 4
5) Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham
6) Just Dance 2015
7) Minecraft: Xbox Edition
8) Minecraft: PlayStation Edition
9) Destiny
10) Assassin’s Creed: Unity
Elsewhere, it’s understood that Just Dance 2015 and Destiny each reaped the benefits of recent price promotions, with the former jumping five places to sixth. On the other hand, Bungie’s shared-world shooter — no doubt bouyed by the recent release of The Dark Below expansion — climbed back into the top ten after a 29 per cent boost in sales.
The only newcomer of note was Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, which missed the top 40 in its entirety. However, as with each passing week, UKie doesn’t record digital sales for any title, so it’s likely that a bite-sized spinoff of this nature will eventually find a bigger audience beyond its retail edition.
As you’d expect, the release schedule is beginning to peter out as we approach the year’s end, so it’s more than likely that this most-recent top ten will remain largely unchanged over the coming weeks. Still, is it possible that price promotions and last-minute Christmas shopping will allow another title to pip FIFA 15 to the summit? Time will tell.
