It won’t be long before we see the first gameplay footage for DICE’s much-anticipated Star Wars Battlefront, it seems, after EA debuted the maiden sizzle reel at a private GameStop event just yesterday, where the vertical slice was met with a standing ovation.
That’s according to the EA’s COO Peter Moore, who took to Twitter to express his excitement after the showing, though remained mum on when said gameplay clip will be unveiled to the mass audience.
A GREAT show with my friends/partners @GameStop. Superb ovation for latest game play footage on @starwars Battlefront pic.twitter.com/mrGAHcT7VK

Of course, it’s commonplace for a publisher to champion its product as it nears completion, but this isn’t the first instance that we’ve heard of Battlefront‘s crowd-pleasing credentials. January brought word that another EA executive had viewed an early build of the third-person shooter and claimed it was already “looking spectacular.”
Mind you, these early murmurings haven’t all been sunshine and rainbows. In fact, a leaked reported suggested that the publisher was planning an aggressive DLC plan with Star Wars Battlefront in the hope of sustaining the title’s popularity beyond its initial release. Whether this pans out remains to be seen, but given EA’s recent track record, a far-reaching content plan isn’t outside the realm of possibility.
Star Wars Battlefront is slated for a tentative late 2015 release window. However, given the staggering amount of triple-A titles that succumbed to a delay last year, don’t be too surprised if EA opts to postpone the third-person shooter into 2016. Still, it’s almost certain that EA will strive to align its release date with that of The Force Awakens in December.
