Up until now, we’ve known very little about the online component within Grand Theft Auto V. That is, until today. True to their word, Rockstar Games published the very first trailer for Grand Theft Auto Online, which they have claimed to be a “persistent, dynamic online world,” that will go live on October 1st. If you haven’t already, check out the reveal trailer below:
Similar in tone to the original gameplay reveal, this footage for Grand Theft Auto Online is designed to break down the multiplayer element within Rockstar’s production in all of its colossal glory. While the game will feature more traditional game modes such as team deathmatch, this new trailer hints toward some of the idiosyncratic content that we can expect. Shared hideouts, customizable characters and unstructured missions are just some of the elements that the studio have added to the game, and players will be able to travel across land, air and sea in GTA’s online playground.
Perhaps one of the most surprising additions, though, is the content creator; which will give gamers the ability to craft their own race tracks and maps that can be enjoyed alone or with friends. What’s more, this will also provide players with the opportunity to test out other user-generated locales and set-ups.
Combining competitive and co-operative multiplayer under one online umbrella, Grand Theft Auto Online is choke full of exciting content for you to enjoy when it launches this October. Not only that, Rockstar have confirmed that the studio themselves will be “constantly developing more content” for the game’s multiplayer; with new missions and characters all seeming like probable add-ons.
The studio has also confirmed that the online section of the game is a separate entity, and the fact that Grand Theft Auto Online hasn’t been named numerically hints towards Rockstar supporting this mechanic for a long time to come.
Grand Theft Auto V will release on September 17th for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Plus, with this MMO-esque multiplayer component launching on October 1st, it’s highly unlikely that your current-gen console will gather dust anytime soon.
