CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the upcoming RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, are striving towards creating the most immersive entry into the franchise yet. During this quest, they’ve recruited none other than Tywin Lannister – known as Charles Dance outside the land of Westeros – to play Emperor Emhyr var Emreis, the ruler of Nilfgaard. In tandem with this casting news, the studio also released a brand new cinematic trailer for the game, which you can check out below:
Visceral, gritty and unremittingly stylish, this new footage serves to provide fans with a brief taster of the game running on the studio’s RedEngine 3 technology. Boasting a world thirty times bigger than that of its predecessor, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will challenge the very boundaries of the open world genre when it’s released sometime in 2014. Not only that, the game will also add a new layer of depth to the tale of grizzled protagonist Geralt; a tale that will also include a certain Lord of Casterly Rock.
Here’s what Marcin Blacha, lead scribe behind the game, had to say about Dance’s inclusion:
“Charles Dance is the perfect candidate to play the mighty Nilfgaardian emperor in our upcoming title. It’s a dream come true for the team here at RED to be able to work with such an accomplished actor and magnetic personality.”
Considering the Nilfgaard heritage residing in the previous two games, the actor looks set to play a central role in the forthcoming threequel. What’s more, given his ruthless demeanour on the Game of Thrones series, his addition to the voice acting cast is sure to excite many an RPG fan.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt acts as the final chapter in the current trilogy, and will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC sometime in 2014. Be sure to keep an eye on CD Projekt Red’s title at next week’s Gamescom, too.
