Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last several years, you’ve most likely heard of Game of Thrones, the HBO-developed adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s long-running ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series of novels. With the show’s seventh season set to premiere next summer, Game of Thrones shows no signs of slowing down in terms of popularity, even with HBO planning to end it after the eighth season.
There’s plenty to love when it comes to Game of Thrones; it’s a wonderfully cast show with an interesting and diverse set of characters, and the attention to detail on display is nothing short of spectacular. It’s also hard to ignore the show’s original music, especially its iconic theme song, which is composed by veteran musician Ramin Djawadi. You’ve probably heard Djawadi’s work before; his music can be heard across summer blockbusters such as Pacific Rim and Warcraft, and a few video games such as Medal of Honor: Warfighter and the cult classic System Shock 2.
It’s been a few years since he has worked in the gaming industry, but today, Microsoft has announced that Ramin Djawadi will be composing the soundtrack for Gears of War 4. This marks the first time Djawadi will be involved with the franchise as a whole. The first games’ soundtrack was penned by composer Kevin Riepl, with Steve Jablonsky handling the soundtrack for the Gears of War 2, 3 and Judgement.
If you’re interested in checking out a behind the scenes look at Djawadi’s work on Gears of War 4, be sure to watch the video above, which includes a few glimpses at some of the game’s soundtrack, along with some insight into how Djawadi works alongside developer The Coalition.
Gears of War 4 is set to release on October 11th, for both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.
