Monster Hunter Generations

While it may not be able to compete with some of the heavy hitters coming in the latter half of 2016, if we’re just looking at the first six months of the year, which we are, Monster Hunter Generations makes a pretty good case for being a GOTY candidate.

What’s particularly great about the latest entry in the immensely popular series is that while longtime fans will no doubt eat this little love letter up, newcomers will feel extremely comfortable as well, since this is by far the most accessible outing yet. There are a set of awesome tutorial quests here that can be completed in just a couple of hours, and they really do a great job of giving you a primer on the series’ most important systems.

Furthermore, as far as graphics go, Monster Hunter Generations continues to absolutely push the 3DS hardware to its limits. The environments, creatures and effects are truly spectacular and look better than ever before here, especially in 3D. Not only that, but the incredible amount of quests available means that the game offers up incalculable value.

Admittedly, some people may see Generations as more of the same, and in a lot of ways it is, but it adds further polish and unique features (such as the new Hunting Arts and Styles) that series veterans will surely fall in love with.
