Back in April, The Coalition opened up the gates to host a Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta test on Xbox One, offering fans an early peek at the studio’s work-in-progress.
Designed to accumulate feedback across the board, many of the improvements made since the open test revolve around technical tweaks and changes to the core gameplay systems, but Studio Head Rod Fergusson took to Twitter to share a before and after shot, revealing just how far the shooter has come in the visual department.
With close to four months still to go before Gears of War 4 deploys for Xbox One, there’s still plenty left to do on The Coalition’s sequel, but ardent supporters of the series can take solace in the graphical leap made since the beta.

Set a full 25 years after the planet Sera went up in smoke, Gears of War 4 chronicles the journey of J.D. Fenix – son of series stalwart Marcus Fenix – who is forced to fend off that malicious Swarm alongside fellow COG soldiers Delmont “Del” Walker and Kait Diaz.
The Coalition has slated Gears of War 4 to hit Xbox One on October 11. As one of Microsoft’s AAA tentpoles going into the holiday season, expect the sci-fi sequel to be featured during the company’s keynote address at E3 2016 next week.
