If you’ve been holding off on upgrading to an Xbox One S in the hopes that Microsoft would come up with a promotion you just couldn’t refuse, then this could well be it.
For just this week, if you buy any existing Xbox One S bundle, you’ll score yourself an Xbox One game of your choice for free. Participating retailers include Amazon, Target, GameStop, Best Buy, Walmart and Microsoft’s own store. It’s not completely clear if there’s any restrictions on which title you choose as your free one, but the post over on Xbox Wire explicitly mentions the likes of NBA 2K17, Destiny’s Rise of Iron add-on, Forza Horizon 3 and FIFA 17 as popular contenders.
Unsurprisingly, the fine print confirms that the offer can’t be applied to pre-orders, so you’ll have to limit your choice to titles that have already been released. Likewise, the maximum value can’t exceed $59.99.
If you ask us, this sounds like a bargain, but it’s all moot if you’ve no interest in upgrading or entering the Xbox family for the first time. The real question is if the Xbox One S does enough to warrant the price. Boasting 4K Blu-ray, video and Ultra HD support, Microsoft’s pushing the console as the quintessential media device for gamers, noting the presence of High Dynamic Range (HDR) as the icing on the cake.
Until Microsoft comes out with more details for Project Scorpio, the Xbox One S is, for all intents and purposes, your best bet in regards to enjoying first-party software at its best. For our own review of the slimmed-down box, see here.
