Total PlayStation 4 sales now stand at over 40 million units since the console’s launch in 2013, Sony has confirmed. As is sometimes the case when sales data is released to the public, the above figure represents the number of units actually sold to consumers rather than one accounting for stock shipped to retailers.
To put icing on the cake, Sony has further confirmed that combined physical and digital PS4 games sales have surpassed 270.9 million. Of the announcement, Sony Global CEO and President Andrew House expressed his gratitude to fans and partners for making the console a success over “such a short span of time.”
We are truly grateful for the enormous support from our fans and partners across the globe, which helped us achieve this significant milestone in such a short span of time. We will strive to deliver even more exciting gaming experiences to our users, further driving the momentum and accelerating the expansion of the PS4 platform and its business this fiscal year by offering an unparalleled line-up of games, bringing our virtual reality system, PlayStation VR, to market and providing ground-breaking features and network services.
The success and strength of the PlayStation 4 seems to know no bounds at the moment, it seems, and the recent release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, along with other upcoming exclusives like Horizon: Zero Dawn and No Man’s Sky (console exclusive) will no doubt ensure its continued popularity.
