Given that Cyanide Studio and Focus Home Interactive first announced Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game three years ago, it’s fair to say that the Lovecraftian horror title has been a long time coming.
But now that a tentative 2017 release window is in place, the nightmarish “RPG-investigation” game is beginning to show flickers of life, with two new screenshots bubbling up from the deep to prove that, yes, Cyanide’s scarefest is still alive and well.
Casting light on the ominous Darkwater Island, the gloomy images don’t reveal much in terms of story, but are instead designed to spotlight Call of Cthulhu‘s foreboding environments. Stepping into the shoes of Edward Pierce, players will venture into the darkness – and, in all likelihood, beneath the waves – as a veteran private investigator tasked with unearthing the truth behind the peculiar death of an artist and her family aboard Darkwater Isle.
But the Great Dreamer, Cthulhu, is on the verge of an awakening, bringing with it all kinds of psychological horror that will surely keep fans of the genre rooted to the edge of their seats. Now that official screenshots have reared their head, the game’s first trailer should be emerging sooner rather than later.
Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game is due to surface across consoles and PC at some point in 2017.
