It wouldn’t be a Ubisoft E3 press conference without a high-res cinematic for Assassin’s Creed now, would it? In keeping with tradition, the publisher’s penultimate announcement for the day was all about Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, the latest entry into the blockbuster series that takes the clandestine action to Victorian London.
Exploring the criminal underbelly of the capital will form the basis of the game’s story, and players will be able to take control of Jacob and Evie Frye circa 1868. As siblings, the assassin pairing offer up two distinct means of play, with Jacob boasting expertise in gunplay and more brash forms of combat, while his sister Evie is the more stealthy of the two.
[zerggaming]Much like previous Assassin’s Creeds, Syndicate will feature cameo appearances from some historical figures, most notable of which are Charles Dickens and biologist Charles Darwin, though how exactly these two characters will filter into the story remains to be seen. As you’d imagine, traversal is key in Ubisoft’s upcoming sequel, though the developer – Ubisoft Quebec – is aiming to take that locomotion one step further with the likes of horse-drawn carriages.
“The ability to lead an underground gang, commandeer any vehicle on hand and use modern tools to take on an expansive and fast-paced Victorian London sets this game apart,” said Marc-Alexis Côté, creative director, Ubisoft. “Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has been in development for more than two years and this new modern take on the living open world will please Assassin’s Creed fans and newcomers alike.”
Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate will slink onto PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC come October 23.
