As expansive as the world of competitive automotive racing is, it’s hard to imagine that anybody outside of the loop knows much about the sport at all. Gamers have been given a glimpse into that world through Codemasters’ uber-realistic GRID series, and GRID: Autosport, the latest entry to bear the moniker, is looking to shed some light on the sport for those of us who don’t follow it exclusively.
In their new Endurance gameplay trailer, released yesterday, Codemasters spoke to a few professional drivers while showcasing their new Endurance discipline focus, one of five that will be introduced in GRID: Autosport. The drivers, including Matt Bell of United Autosports, Aleksander Schjerpen of Century Motorsport and Rory Butcher of the Oman Racing Team, all comment on the challenge of Endurance racing events, a challenge that Codemasters is looking to capture by having players focus on taking care of their cars throughout the duration of the race. Endurance events within the campaign will also take place at night to simulate the concentration necessary to compete.
While these events will surely draw in more diehard fans, Codemasters have included four additional racing disciplines, including Touring Cars, Open-Wheel cars, Tuner events and Street races. Adding to this ambitious campaign are over 100 routes to race on from 22 beautifully detailed landscapes and loads of cars, both classic and contemporary, to race, collect and tune to your heart’s content. The GRID series is renowned for its attention to detail, and GRID: Autosport is looking to carry the torch of fantastic quality provided by its predecessors.
GRID: Autosport will speed into North American retailers on June 24, before hitting shelves in the UK on June 27 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Stay tuned for more updates as the racer gets closer to release.
