Pinned as one of the more intriguing new releases going into E3 2016, Remember Me and Life is Strange developer Dontnod is on the verge of showcasing Vampyr to the masses, and to sate our collective appetite, a string of haunting screenshots have emerged for the new horror IP.
Placing players in the crooked shoes of one Jonathan Reid, Vampyr takes place during a time when Victorian London was crippled by the Spanish Flu circa 1918. What lends Dontnod’s new title its unique selling point is the fact that Reid leads a double life; by day, he’s a decorated doctor dealing with influenza but by night, he’s a blood-sucking vampire that stalks the shadows of the Big Smoke.
With these new set of screenshots, Dontnod draws attention to the game’s core duality, and it’s understood players will face one moral conundrum after another – who will live, who will die? – as they begin to unlock some of Reid’s supernatural abilities. Until we clock eyes on actual gameplay, it remains to be seen how the studio will implement such an intriguing system, but Dontnod did offer some details regarding Reid’s interaction with the people of 20th century London.
“Absolutely all characters in the game are potential victims of your vampiric lust. Carefully study the habits of your next victim, his or her relationships with other characters, and set up your strategy to feed, unnoticed: seduce them, change their daily habits, or make sure they end up alone in a dark street.”
Vampyr is due to release across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC at some point in 2017, with a formal reveal expected during E3 next month.
