Hideo Kojima, founding father of the Metal Gear series and widely considered to be one of the best developers working today, firmly believes his mysterious new IP, Death Stranding, will go on to become his “best work.”
Speaking at a presentation with PS4 system architect Mark Cerny – who also assisted on the game’s eerie, conceptual trailer – Kojima claimed that Death Stranding, the first title to be produced by Kojima Productions, will be an experience like no other.
“So far, when I’ve been making games, I’ve had to give up on something or at least compromise on something in order to get things done,” Kojima explained. “But this time, working with you [Mark Cerny] and you bringing the state of the art technologies, we will get around that [usual problem].”
It’s a bullish statement, of course, but considering Hideo Kojima boasts a résumé that spans the original Metal Gear of ’87 to Zone of the Enders and beyond, we’re inclined to lend the developer the benefit of the doubt.
“I’m very confident that we’re working towards something completely new and that no one has seen so far,” Kojima continued. “This will be my best work so far, I’m very confident about that.”
Death Stranding is in development for PS4, and that’s about all we know at this point in time. Last we reported, Hideo Kojima and his team were yet to settle on a game engine, indicating the Kojima Productions’ maiden title won’t be ready for launch until 2019 – and that’s a conservative estimate.
