Has Hideo Kojima Revealed The Release Date For Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain?

As one of the most revered developers in the industry and the father of Metal Gear Solid, Hideo Kojima doesn't like to do things by halves. Having trolled players and critics alike with the nebulous, wholly brilliant reveal for Silent Hills back at Gamescom, it seems the series creator may have been at it once more during last weekend's The Game Awards 2014 -- albeit in a more low-key fashion.

As one of the most revered developers in the industry and the father of Metal Gear Solid, Hideo Kojima doesn’t like to do things by halves. Having trolled players and critics alike with the nebulous, wholly brilliant reveal for Silent Hills back at Gamescom, it seems the series creator may have been at it once more during last weekend’s The Game Awards 2014 — albeit in a more low-key fashion.

According to Reddit, the Swedish text on Kojima’s shirt  — “tjugoandra den sjätte”, to be specific — translated as “twenty-two the sixth,” thereby hinting that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain may arrive on June 22, 2015.

Now, the skeptic among you be wondering why on earth an obscure Swedish byline would refer to the fifth numerical entry in Kojima’s stealth series, but it’s important to note that when the director first unveiled The Phantom Pain, it was under a false company known as Moby Dick Studios — a company that just so happened to be based in Sweden. It’s elementary, my dear Watson.

Of course, nothing is official as of yet, and neither Hideo Kojima himself nor Kojima Productions has released a statement regarding the matter. Still given the director’s reputation, it wouldn’t be too surprising if this rumor proved to be true.

We’ll keep you right up to date with the status of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain — including its release date — as more news appears. For now, you can let us know what you make of Kojima’s obscure, unofficial reveal in the comments.
