One month out from release, Horizon Zero Dawn has officially gone gold, indicating that Guerrilla Games’ upcoming PS4 exclusive is packed and ready to be shipped to retailers across the globe.
In a world of hefty day-one patches and ongoing updates, ‘gone gold’ doesn’t necessarily mean that Guerrilla’s work on the open-world RPG is complete; rather, the master copy of Horizon is finished and the dev team can now begin focusing on bug fixes and the like.
News of Horizon Zero Dawn reaching said milestone comes hand-in-hand with an extended gameplay demo for Guerilla’s new IP, which features the flame-haired Aloy exploring a post-post-apocalyptic world. Ashly Burch of Borderlands fame lent her voice and likeness to the part (see below), and you’ll also get a glimpse of the game’s recently announced photo mode via today’s demo.
Angled as a potential franchise-starter for Sony, we nominated Horizon Zero Dawn as one of our most-anticipated games of 2017 – and it’s small wonder why. Dropping players onto a future Earth teeming with giant, robotic dinosaurs, Zero Dawn follows Aloy and her tribe as they work to uncover the mystery behind those sky-scraping machines. As an open-world RPG, expect Guerrilla’s new title to feature plenty of content and no microtransactions whatsoever, which isn’t all that surprising given Horizon is, first and foremost, a single-player experience.
Here’s the latest update from Guerrilla regarding today’s milestone, along with the announcement from actress Ashly Burch.
