The sequel to one of video gaming’s finest accomplishments is following in the footsteps of its predecessor, as gamers flock to the universally acclaimed Spider-Man 2.
The game’s title is technically Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, thanks to the confusion those never-ending Spidey releases have left in their wake. The games would share real estate with any number of other releases if they kept it too simple, so search for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 if you’re curious about the award-winning game series.
Preceded by Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (man that’s a mouthful), Spider-Man 2 was a fan favorite before it ever hit shelves. The game was a guaranteed hit from the start, an expectation that was met the instant players got their hands on it. Some even think it’s better than the first — if that’s possible — and we’re sure to find hours and hours of enjoyment among its side missions and radiant superhero quests, even once we’ve polished the main story.
How long is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?
A game’s length varies significantly based on play style. If you’re like me, you probably take a somewhat meandering approach to gameplay. You follow those side missions when they divert your course, seek out every collectible, photo op, and strangely-situated backpack, and chat up any NPC who will give you the time of day. In a game like Marvel’s Spider-Man, it enhances the immersion to do so. Not to mention how much fun it can be to let the city make your decisions for you — Peter’s late to everything for a reason, and the game does a wonderful job of illustrating why. Crime, chaos, and opportunities to intervene are everywhere in this game series, and it can be addicting.
But plenty of players will find the most enjoyment in simply attacking the main storyline. They might not share our simple pleasure in rescuing a civilian or stopping those robbers from escaping, and thus they’ll enjoy a far shorter game experience. Temper your expectations for game length based on how you typically tackle a game, and consider how much time you’re likely to put into the many delightful side dishes Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 serves up.
For focused-but-time-poor gamers, a play through of the main story in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 can be concluded in as little as 15 hours. For any non-gamer readers, that probably sounds like an insane amount of time to spend on a single game — to you, I offer up the literal days I’ve spent on Baldur’s Gate 3 and Stardew Valley and bow out respectfully. 15-18 hours is a good solid length for a game, ensuring plenty of time for enjoyment without stretching things out an unreasonable amount. Its nothing to scoff at, by any means, but its no life-stealer.
For we meanderers, however, a play through of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could easily take upwards of 25-30 hours. The game can honestly go on a fair bit longer, thanks to the frequent, radiant crimes that crop up around the city, but you’ll find far less to do once you’ve polished off the main story and cinched gold on all the side quests. Securing that sweet 100% will likely take closer to the high end of our estimate, but we predict few gamers will walk away disappointed.
