Supermassive Games has today debuted a new interactive trailer for its PS4 horror game Until Dawn, putting you in control of your own destiny – for better or worse.
Placing a heavy emphasis on the title’s choice-based gameplay, the live-action clip essentially plays out a scenario from the adventure game, replete with a Psycho-esque shower scene. With an intruder looming in the shadows, your direct input controls the female protagonist throughout the course of the video, as she creeps gingerly around the corridors of her own home. Will she make a dart for the relative safety of her room? Or confront the uninvited guest, weapon in hand? You decide.
It’s this branching narrative that effectively separates Until Dawn from its genre contemporaries. With a vast number of defining moments littered throughout the course of the story, Supermassive is hoping that no two experiences will be the same, as player choice directly influences who lives and who dies among your group of wayward friends.
Now on the brink of release, it’s been a long development cycle for Supermassive’s Until Dawn. Initially unveiled as a horror experience designed with PlayStation Move in mind, the new IP has been completely overhauled in its transition from one generation to the next. Such a change of tact involved recruiting a new voice cast, as the studio looked to channel inspiration from some of the most memorable shlock horror experiences in cinema.
Until Dawn will launch exclusively for PlayStation 4 on August 25.
Eight friends trapped together on a remote mountain retreat, and they aren’t alone. Gripped by dread, with tensions running high, they must fight through their fear if they all hope to make through the night in one piece. Play as each of the eight characters and experience fear like you never have before. Every decision you make in your terrifying search for answers could mean the difference between life and death, but for whom? Your actions alone will decide who survives Until Dawn.
