The latest chart stats came in today with Sony’s fiery hot shooter managing to topple Activision’s FPS titan for a wonderful moment. Guerrilla has produced an incredibly polished game in Killzone 3, with fans literally swooping down upon the long awaited instalment. Personally I think the marketing milestone that led to this table topping sales figure, was the open beta that hit PSN a week or so back.
People love free stuff and it put the game on folk’s radar in a very good way. It’s surprising then that such a large number of publishers neglect to release a demo or a public beta to wet gamers appetites – then again Killzone 3 is Sony’s game so they can give it centre stage on the PSN unlike everyone else.
Bulletstorm has managed to start kicking around in the charts as well – which can’t be a bad sign. Hopefully when we get the statistics across all the platforms we can judge how well People Can Fly has done in the warzone. I’m curious to see if all those advertising stunts paid off, because EA certainly put a lot of effort into them.
The top ten for the week ended February 26th 2011:
01. Killzone 3 (Sony)
02. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision)
03. Dead Space 2 (EA Games)
04. FIFA 11 (EA)
05. Bulletstorm (EA)
06. LittleBigPlanet (Sony)
07. Marvel Vs Capcom 3 (Capcom)
08. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft)
09. Mass Effect 2 (EA)
10. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (EA)
Look at that for British taste eh? I think that deserves a round of applause.
