Few franchises garner as much nostalgia and feelings of childhood wonder as Square Enix’s beloved Kingdom Hearts, and today, the company confirmed that its upcoming HD compilation, Kingdom Hearts 2.5 ReMIX, will be released exclusively for PlayStation 3 on December 2nd and December 5th in North America and Europe, respectively.
The release date, which, in truth, was a long time coming, was announced in tandem with an all-new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 2.5 ReMIX. Also, the footage itself teases a plethora of new features that will introduced to the 2005 original. Of these features, Square Enix has confirmed a plethora of new boss battles along with additional weapons and mini-games.
Taking to the PlayStation Blog, the studio’s Marketing Coordinator, Mat Kishimoto, also revealed that Square Enix will be holding a live Q&A during E3 to allow the franchise’s passionate fan base to voice their questions and queries to the creative directors.
“Co-director Tai Yasue will be doing a Q&A on Square Enix Presents at 10th June 2014 at 11.30pm BST, [while] Staff from Square Enix Europe and Square Enix America will be talking about EVERYTHING under the sun about Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX on 11th June 2014 at 9.00pm BST!”
Much like its remastered predecessor, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 ReMix, this latest re-release will encompass a total of three titles, including PSP sleeper hit Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Final Mix (no pun intended), Kingdom Hearts Re:coded and, of course, Kingdom Hearts 2 ReMix.
Whether Kingdom Hearts 2.5 ReMix will be joined at E3 by its ultimate successor, Kingdom Hearts III, remains to be seen. Although, judging by the tail end of the above trailer, it seems as though we’ll find out more about Sora’s next adventure before long.
