Legendary Skins For Overwatch’s Year Of The Rooster Event Leaked

Yet again, it looks as if major details surrounding one of Overwatch's limited-time events has leaked ahead of time. As per Reddit (via VG247), a promotional poster detailing a free trial period for the shooter has been spotted in China, which shows skins not currently available in-game for several different characters. Reinhardt, Roadhog, Zenyatta and Winston are present on the poster, all of which are sporting new looks themed after the classic Chinese novel: Journey to the West. Check out the poster below.

The Reddit post provides a handy description of each skin, each of which will be familiar to those that have read the 400-year-old novel. Winston, rather predictably, takes on the role of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, while Zenyatta is styled after Tang Sanzang, Wukong’s Buddism master.

Roadhog, on the other hand, loses the mask to reveal some humorous porcine features, referencing Zhu Bajie, another of Tang’s apprentices. Last is Reinhardt who, according to the Reddit post, is based on Sha Heshang. Assuming all of the above is accurate, it appears as if Blizzard has pulled out all of the stops for Overwatch‘s first major event of 2017. Last year’s Christmas affair was criticized by some for offering new Hero skins that didn’t diverge enough from their usual threads, with Mei, in particular, coming under fire.

Officially announced earlier this week via Blizzard’s social media channels, Overwatch‘s Year of the Rooster extravaganza kicks off January 24 on all platforms and will no doubt introduce a wealth of new voice lines and sprays for players to collect. Chances are, you can probably expect a suitably themed Hero Brawl to coincide with the update, too, so look forward to seeing what crazy (and unbalanced) rules Blizzard comes up with.
