Though the studio already placed a tentative pin on the calendar, French developer Dontnod has formally confirmed that its conclusive Life is Strange Episode 5: Polarized will launch across console platforms and PC on October 20, and there’s a teaser trailer to prove it.
Merely hinting at the climactic events that await both Max and Chloe in the final installment for season 1, the clip effectively sets the tone, asking fans to batten down the hatches as the “prepare to weather the storm.”
Given that this is the last entry into the premiere season, one question that has loomed large is whether the studio close out Life is Strange on a cliffhanger. Thankfully, it appears that isn’t the case, with Dontnod promising a tangible sense of closure by the time the credits roll.
“There will be a sense of closure at the end of episode five. We have ideas for a season two, but we don’t want to end with a huge cliffhanger. There is an ending.”
After a remarkably strong debut, the studio’s time-hopping adolescent drama has quietly gone from strength to strength, with each new installment allowing the intricate story of Maxine to unfold like origami. Such has been the critical response to Life is Strange that Dontnod is openly considering pushing on with a sophomore season, but for now all resources remain firmly fixed on the launch of Polarized later this month.
Max and Chloe’s adventure will come to an end – for now, at least – when Dontnod’s conclusive Life is Strange Episode 5: Polarized launches across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on Tuesday, October 20.
