Though a concrete release date continues to elude Mass Effect: Andromeda – BioWare’s spacefaring sequel is tentatively pegged for Q1 2017 at the time of writing – there’s still a hushed excitement swirling around the studio’s new entry in the beloved sci-fi franchise.
Following up on its showcase at EA’s conference, which took fans behind the scenes on the much-anticipated release, Polygon has published a preview of Andromeda that features an interview with Creative Director Mac Walters.
It was here that Walters offered up new details regarding the story of Mass Effect: Andromeda, and how it is essentially about “becoming a hero” in a far-flung galaxy. Don’t go in expecting Commander Shepherd to make an appearance, though, as BioWare’s new title will revolve around a completely new and untested band of heroes.
Here’s what Walters had to share about that fish-out-of-water dynamic:
“People are kind of looking at you and going, ‘Well, who are you and what are you doing here?. This isn’t your home. The only way that works is if we really make that an integral part of the story, and the story of the characters that you meet when you’re there.
“We’re freeing ourselves up with in this game,” he said. “It’s new to the protagonist in the story as well, so you get to experience it with them, ask all the questions that they’re probably asking as well and kind of go on that journey together.”
Barring any last-minute delays, Mass Effect: Andromeda is set to release during Q1 2017, indicating that BioWare’s adventure will deploy anytime before March 31, 2017.
