Microsoft Promises “Fun Year” Ahead For New IP On Xbox One

Throughout the course of 2015, Microsoft has trumpeted its fall software lineup - and for good reason. With Forza Motorsport 6, Halo 5: Guardians, Gears of War Ultimate Edition and the timed-exclusive launch of Rise of the Tomb Raider all hitting Xbox One, the platform holder presided over an enviable slate of new releases, though Xbox boss Phil Spencer has teased that there's still plenty coming to the current-gen system in 2016.

Throughout the course of 2015, Microsoft has trumpeted its fall software lineup – and for good reason. With Forza Motorsport 6, Halo 5: Guardians, Gears of War Ultimate Edition and the timed-exclusive launch of Rise of the Tomb Raider all hitting Xbox One, the platform holder presided over an enviable slate of new releases, though Xbox boss Phil Spencer has teased that there’s still plenty coming to the current-gen system in 2016.

Specifically, Spencer alluded to the new IP headed to Xbox One in the new year. Barring any delays, 2016 will welcome the likes of intriguing indies and budding franchise-starters alike, including Quantum Break, Armature’s E3 crowd-pleaser ReCore, Inside, Dark Souls-esque RPG Below, Cuphead, Platinum Games’ Scalebound, Rare’s maritime adventure Sea of Thieves, and Ashen.

Per Twitter:

That’s the current slate of confirmed titles, and we fully expect Microsoft to touch base on some of the yet-to-be-revealed games during E3 and Gamescom throughout 2016. Whether it’s enough to spur sales of the Xbox One hardware remains to be seen, though, which currently lags behind the PlayStation 4. In fact, according to November’s NPD report, Sony’s hardware is outselling Xbox One at a ratio of about 2:1 give or take. However, Microsoft hasn’t disclosed official sale figures for its console in some time.

From Quantum Break to the Disney-inspired Cuphead, Xbox One is promising a diverse lineup in 2016, but which title has caught your eye?
