Sony has revealed that their critically acclaimed MLB: The Show franchise will be making its PlayStation 4 debut in May with MLB 14: The Show, which will also be coming to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on April 1.

While release date news regarding the franchise’s PS4 debut is exciting enough, Sony Computer Entertainment America San Diego Studios Community Manager Ramone Russell has also revealed a flurry of new information about the title. MLB 14: The Show will feature over 50 new and improved features, as well as a new UI built specifically for the PlayStation 4. There will also be a significant upgrade for next-gen consoles, as you can see from the comparison posted below.

MLB 14: The Show will also feature improvements to the Road To The Show mode, Online Franchise mode and the Universal Profile system. This year’s online franchise mode will feature multi-season play and include scouting, free agency, CPU trades and the Amateur Draft. Additional features include year-to-year save transfers, community challenges generated by the fans and a new currency system entitled Stubs, which will allow players to buy in-game additions either through real-world currency or by playing the game and being rewarded with them.

As someone who put MLB 13: The Show on their top games of 2013 list, I’m extremely excited about seeing the title make the jump to the PlayStation 4. In my opinion, it is the best sports franchise going right now and the power provided by the system will only help to make it better.
