Mod support for Fallout 4 on PlayStation 4 will finally arrive later this week as part of a wider 1.8 update for all platforms, Bethesda has confirmed via Twitter.

The contents of the patch itself, which is already live on PC and awaiting certification on Xbox One and PS4, aren’t particularly noteworthy – with most changes pertaining to bug fixes or UI improvements. Post-update though, owners of the post-apocalyptic adventure on PS4 will finally have access to mod support, albeit in a more diluted form compared to other platforms.

As is the case with the PlayStation 4 version of Skyrim: Special Edition, file size restrictions will be in place for Fallout 4 mods on Sony’s console, although it’s unclear whether they’ll adhere to the same 1GB cap. In comparison, the cap for the Xbox One version is 5GB and can utilize mods that feature external assets.

As disappointing as it is that Sony has only allowed mods on its console with a strict set of rules, it’s still a better outcome than PS4 owners having no mods whatsoever – a reality that seemed to be a dead cert before a compromise was agreed on.

As an added bonus, PS4 Pro owners can look forward to running the game in native 4K resolution, as well as lighting and graphics improvements.
