Mortal Kombat 11 Dev Says Joker Will Be Vicious In The Game

In case you hadn't heard, Mortal Kombat 11 received a particularly large announcement yesterday. The blood-soaked brawler's Kombat Pack - a meaty DLC bundle containing six additional characters - was unveiled in full, finally putting to rest a dizzying number of rumors and leaks attempting to guess who would make the cut. Some such speculation, as it turns out, has been eerily accurate, correctly predicting that both Terminator and Joker are set to debut between now and early next year. Sadly, those hoping that whispers of Evil Dead's Ash Williams' inclusion would prove factual will be left sorely disappointed but hey, there's always the possibility of a Kombat Pack 2 in the future, right?

We’ll see, but for now, all eyes are on Batman’s nemesis and the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker. Surprisingly, and unlike its Terminator: Dark Fate-inspired T-800, Joker’s design in MK11 doesn’t appear to be based on any particular incarnation of the character. At a base level, this version of the iconic villain looks most similar to the classic one from Batman: The Animated Series but also looks too clean-cut and non-threatening to many fans.

Appearances can be deceiving, of course, and if there was any doubt that Joker would be a terrifying force to be reckoned with in Mortal Kombat 11, see below.

“Joker will be VICIOUS,” reads the Tweet from NetherRealm Studios’ Ed Boon, who certainly knows a thing or two about what makes Joker tick. Having appeared in the studio’s DC-centric Injustice 2 sporting a demented look and equally terrifying skillset, I can’t wait to see how he’ll stack up against the likes of Scorpion and Shao Kahn. With that said, one concern still hangs in the air. Given its glorious glory nature, it remains to be seen how much free reign NetherRealm will have in, for want of better phrasing, mutilating his visage.

DC ultimately gets the final say in such matters, and it would be jarring, to say the least, if Joker isn’t allowed to be depicted on screen as getting bloodied or far worse. Either way, we’ll find out for sure when Mr. J releases for Mortal Kombat 11 early next year.
