Mortal Kombat 11 Reveals First Look At Spawn

If Mortal Kombat 11's official Twitter account is anything to go by, it looks like fans won't have to wait too much longer to see Spawn in action.

Even though Mortal Kombat 11 hit store shelves nearly two months ago, the newest entry in the long-running series still has plenty of fresh content coming down the pipeline. Back in May, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developer NetherRealm Studios announced that a handful of new fighters were in the works, including one which might be familiar for longtime comic book fans.

Right now, players can purchase the game’s aptly-named Kombat Pack, which grants access to over a dozen bonus skins for existing characters, a new gear set for Johnny Cage and, most importantly, four brand new fighters. Aside from a few Klassic Kombatants – Sindel, Nightwolf, and Shang Tsung, who was just made available today – the paid DLC also unlocks Spawn.

Unfortunately, NetherRealm and Warner Bros. haven’t shown him off just yet, but a few days ago, the official Mortal Kombat 11 Twitter account posted a brief clip, which is sure to get fans excited. There’s not much to go off of, but we’re hoping that we’ll get a glimpse of his moveset and in-game model soon.

For those who aren’t aware, Todd McFarlane’s Spawn is one of the world’s best-selling and longest-running monthly comic books, with hundreds of millions of copies sold worldwide in more than 120 countries and 15 different languages. The series tells the story of Al Simmons, an elite government assassin who was betrayed and killed by the CIA.

Instead of dying though, he sells his soul to Hell for a second chance at life, and becomes Spawn, an unstoppable soldier fighting the underworld. For his MK11 incarnation, the character will be voiced by Keith David, who was the original actor from the Emmy award-winning HBO animated series.

If, for some reason, Spawn isn’t really your style (shame on you), it’s worth noting recent rumors and leaks indicated that Ash Williams (yep, from Evil Dead) and the Terminator himself are the remaining two mystery guest characters. This might not come as a surprise to some – Ash was added to Dead by Daylight earlier in the year, and James Cameron’s time-traveling assassin will also be making his way to Gears of War 5 and Ghost Recon Breakpoint – but it’s welcome news nonetheless.

Needless to say, 2019 seems to be the year of video game/film crossovers, and we’re glad that Mortal Kombat 11 is getting in on the action.
