Aerial and land-based gameplay have been placed front and center in this new selection of screenshots for Avalanche Studios’ Just Cause 3, which appeared earlier today on NeoGaf.
While these images haven’t been officially confirmed by the studio itself, there’s no doubting that this particular brand of chaos belongs to Avalanche’s bombastic open-world franchise. Showcasing Rico Rodriguez blasting his way across the fictional Mediterranean setting, the stills are a tantalizing hint at what we can expect when the threequel debuts in June.
For the uninitiated, the upcoming shooter will take place across a vast 400 square mile map, creating the perfect pixelated playground for you to do your bidding. In it, players will go up against General Di Ravello, a malevolent dictator who rules over the tropical setting with an iron fist. But it isn’t the story that serves as the primary focus of a Just Cause title; rather, it’s the no-holds-barred gameplay that has fans eager with anticipation for this next installment — the first since Just Cause 2 in 2010, in fact.
Previous reports had suggested that publisher Square Enix was switching gears with Just Cause 3, releasing the sequel as a free-to-play title supported with micro-transactions. Thankfully, this proved to be untrue, and from the look of things, the developing team has truly upped the ante for the new entry in the series, with Rico grappling helicopters and flying on top of planes. Who needs the laws of physics when you’re having so much fun, right?
Just Cause 3 is expected to release in June of this year across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. To whet your appetite, we’ve included the aforementioned screenshots in the gallery below for your viewing pleasure.
