Nicolas Cage recently set the gaming world alight with a very odd stage appearance at the Summer Game Fest, where he confirmed his in-game appearance in Dead by Daylight. But it seems he’s not stopping there, as Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding icon Hideo Kojima has just posted a picture of Cage visiting the Kojima Productions offices in Japan:
Kojima is well-known for his high-profile collaborations. 2019’s Death Stranding starred Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, and Margaret Qualley. That game’s sequel, Death Stranding 2, is currently in development and has added Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsana to the gang. So, is this a tease that we’re going to see Cage trekking through Kojima’s bizarre and atmospheric post-apocalyptic world?
There’s no official confirmation either way, though we’d kill to be a fly on the wall to hear what Kojima and Cage chatted about. We imagine they’ve got a lot in common: both are ardent cinephiles, neither knows the meaning of the word “subtlety,” and they’re equally willing to take on some truly bonkers projects.
Cage went so far as to leave his mark on the studio, writing a note thanking Kojima and his team for the visit:
Death Stranding 2 is expected to land in late 2024, though there are rumors it’s being developed concurrently with a horror-focused title with Margaret Qualley in the lead role. Meanwhile, Nicolas Cage is as busy as ever, currently delighting audiences with a long-awaited surprise cameo in a major blockbuster that’s just opened (possibly the worst-kept spoiler at the moment).
Here’s hoping the Cage/Kojima visit results in an artistic collaboration, though we doubt the world will be ready for it.
