Nintendo announced today during a Nintendo Direct conference they will be bringing the classic game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic to the Nintendo Switch on November 11. The RPG is often hailed as among the greatest Star Wars games ever made.
Originally released back in 2003 on PC and Xbox, the LucasArts-published game was hailed for its mix of role playing, action and adventure. It was developed by BioWare.
Importantly, the player could also choose whether to join the dark side of the force or fight on the side of the Jedi based on what decisions they made in the game. That was an aspect of the game that made it ahead of its time, pre-dating the similarly structured role playing title Fable.
Affectionately abbreviated as KOTOR by its fans, the game saw a large number of subsequent ports over the years, including to Mac OS X, iOS and Android. In addition, a remake of the game was also announced this month, being developed by Aspyr, for PlayStation 5 and Windows.
The story takes place some 4,000 years before the formation of the Galactic Empire where an insidious Sith Lord, Darth Malak, unleashes a Sith army against the Galactic Republic. You play as a Jedi and must make your way through different parts of the galaxy to defeat Malak. Whether you end the game landing on the light side or dark side of the Force is up to the player’s decisions throughout the game.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic will be a digital-only release and is available to preorder later today on the Switch eShop.
