It’s officially gone gold and soon, Hello Games’ sprawling space sim No Man’s Sky will descend on PC and PS4.
Those out to pick up the title on the latter platform should note that a PlayStation Plus subscription isn’t required to play online. The only drawback is that your interstellar discoveries won’t register with the in-game atlas.
Word comes by way of Game Informer, who relayed an official statement from Sony that states, “PS Plus won’t be a requirement to play online, however you will need to be connected to the internet for your discoveries to register with the universal atlas.”
No Man’s Sky places a fairly heavy emphasis on discovering new alien worlds, with players set to begin their respective adventures at different pockets of the cosmos as they go about chronicling the 18 quintillion odd planets. It’s not a deal-breaker by any stretch, but those eager to contribute to the impossibly large treasure hunt will want to ensure they have a PS Plus subscription for the full experience.
In a bid to educate would-be explorers about the game’s systems, Hello Games has rolled out a series of videos that spotlight exploration, combat and, more recently, the trading system of No Man’s Sky, which will prove instrumental as you go about upgrading your character and interacting with the various alien species littered through the game.
No Man’s Sky is earmarked for launch across both PS4 and PC on August 9 and August 10 in North America and Europe, respectively. Hello Games’ sophomore title will then expand internationally on August 12.
