Oculus Rift Goes To Retail This Week; Many Pre-Orders Still Not Fulfilled

Stock of Oculus Rift will go on sale this week at various retailers, Oculus VR has announced via their blog. The headset will be available - albeit in a very "small number" - to buy in-store from 48 Best Buy stores across the States, as well as from online retailer Amazon and Microsoft. The blog continues to state that availability will be "extremely limited" while the company "catches up on Rift pre-orders."

Stock of Oculus Rift will go on sale this week at various retailers, Oculus VR has announced via their blog. The headset will be available – albeit in a very “small number” – to buy in-store from 48 Best Buy stores across the States, as well as from online retailer Amazon and Microsoft. The blog continues to state that availability will be “extremely limited” while the company “catches up on Rift pre-orders.”

Oculus VR seems to be acutely aware that customers are still waiting for their order to be fulfilled (which began shipping in late March), but that’s unlikely to stop many from feeling short-changed by the fact that the device will imminently be available to the wider public before the company has even met pre-order commitments.

There is a silver lining for those of you affected by the delay though. If you opt to cancel your pre-order and buy the device at retail instead, you’ll still get all the bonuses you would have received originally.

“We know that many pre-order customers are still waiting for their Rifts, so we’re offering those customers a chance to purchase Rift from retail instead – while keeping their pre-order benefits, like the EVE: Valkyrie Founder’s Pack and priority status for Touch pre-orders,” said the company.

“Starting May 6th, if you’re interested, simply go to your order status and let us know you’ve purchased a Rift at retail, and we’ll cancel your pre-order. Your EVE: Valkyrie entitlement will appear in your order history.”

Oculus VR previously reported that the delay was due to a shortage in crucial components for the device, and that pre-orders would begin shipping again on April 12, but clearly, there are people still waiting.
