Online Problems Continue In Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Konami Issues Response

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has barely been on store – and indeed digital – shelves for a week and already many are holding it up as one of the very best releases of the year thus far. A perfect swan song, then, ahead of Hideo Kojima’s departure from Konami.

As one would expect, the vast majority of this praise has been aimed in the direction of the sequel’s sprawling single-player campaign, given that Konami along with Kojima Productions opted to delay the online portion of The Phantom Pain until October. However, there are still a handful of online features in the title that have been beleaguered with server problems since the game launched on Tuesday, September 1.

Taking to Twitter to acknowledge the technical hiccups, Konami assured early adopters that the company was working to remedy the issues, which has led the development team to scale back the amount of Forward Operating Base (FOB) features. Here’s the official word from the publisher:

Now, two days after launch, servers are said to be functional, but still sluggish. Connection issues have resulted in longer load times within menus, while navigating the interface on the in-game iDroid is practically impossible.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is available now across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC – though it’s best to perhaps play offline for the time being. Metal Gear Online will launch a little later, with Konami primed to debut the rebooted multiplayer component in October.
