Overwatch‘s Year of the Rooster event is now live on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and Blizzard has seen fit to release an official trailer to mark the occasion. Of course, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, you’ve probably already seen a great deal of the new limited-time skins, sprays and other cosmetics thanks to the deluge of leaks, but there are a few things in the official trailer we’ve not seen before.
Along with the oriental treatment given to other characters, new skins for both Junkrat and Bastion are shown in the clip, the former of which sees the Aussie’s grenade belts replaced with fireworks. Bastion’s new look, on the other hand, doesn’t look drastically different to already existing alternate colors, but his bird companion has been replaced with a miniature rooster, which is a nice touch.
As was hinted at earlier in the week, there is indeed a new capture the flag mode available for the duration of the event, although Blizzard has seen fit to redub it as Capture the Rooster. Teams will battle for control of each flag under the night’s sky of Lijiang Tower, which has been ceremoniously lit up by fireworks for an added touch of authenticity.
Players have until February 13 to earn the new Lunar Loot Boxes and try their luck at obtaining the limited-time items, many of which are themed after the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. Three weeks should be a generous enough amount of time for completionists to unlock the majority of what’s on offer, especially since Blizzard’s introduction of weekly Loot Box rewards for participating in Overwatch‘s many different game modes.
Good luck out there, Heroes! If you get the chance while taking a break from the action, let us know which skin(s) you’re hoping to bag yourselves in the comments section below!
