During the course of its relatively short two-year history, Fortnite has courted its fair share of controversy. In fact, everything from lawsuits involving dance emotes to calls from royalty to have the battle royale banned are just some of the legal and verbal assaults Epic has been forced to defend itself against since 2017, but even those pale in comparison to the disastrous state of affairs currently ongoing in-game.
Despite the initial novelty and power fantasy provided by Season X’s B.R.U.T.E. mech upon release late last month, that newness has since worn off, only to be replaced by near-universal hatred for the lumbering war machine. In what’s become a frequently occurring turn of events (Season 8’s Baller attracted similar criticism), the latest vehicular addition to Battle Island’s sandbox has been condemned as being grossly overpowered in every playlist, prompting fans to call for its removal entirely.
The subsequent fallout ultimately prompted Epic to work in a batch of mild tweaks to curb the mech’s prevalence, a gesture that did little to calm the storm. A follow-up statement addressing its decision to keep the B.R.U.T.E. around for the purpose it serves in helping new players get a leg-up similarly fell on deaf ears. And so here we back at square one.
Less abrasive it may be in lieu of Epic’s changes, but if the clip from Twitch streamer CouRage below is any indication, player sentiment remains unchanged. For those at work and/or in a public, be warned – the footage is laden with colorful language.
Rant aside, CouRage’s clip perfectly encapsulates the issues being caused by Fortnite‘s B.R.U.T.E. If tactics such as building are rendered redundant in seconds by a passing mech, then what’s the point in strategizing at all? Is this renewed outcry enough to force Epic into action, though? We’ll see.
